Why "Gadfly?"
 

Almost anyone who has ever taken a course in ancient philosophy will understand the allusion. But surely not all of our readers have taken such a course. The origin of this metaphor is Plato's account of Socrates' defense before the citizens of Athens, which follows:


Dr. Ernest Partridge is a consultant, writer and lecturer in the field of Environmental Ethics and Public Policy. He has taught Philosophy at the University of California, and in Utah, Colorado and Wisconsin.
